Folsom was the eastern terminus of the first railroad line on the Pacific Coast, linking Sacramento and this historic gold mining town on the banks of the American River. Folsom is also the site of the first long-distance power house sending electrical energy 15 miles to Sacramento. Prisoners from the nearby state prison supplied the labor. There are many points of interest to enjoy including the Power House State park, the old railroad station, State Prison museum, and the Pony Express station and museum on Sutter St. There are also many good restaurants and stores offering merchandise of various kinds. |
